On the compounding power of content
Launching a podcast at 15, with zero clue, turned out to be the single best career move I could’ve made. I haven’t found a more effective way to build a robust Rolodex than by consistently creating content.
I often advise young professionals to start their career by building some form of snackable content, whether it’s a podcast, newsletter, or blog - to “break in”. This is also true for anyone wanting to land a specific job.
Initially my show was falling flat: the only listener was my mum, I didn’t know how to hook episodes and would pitch dozens before landing a guest.
Then it took off, almost overnight, thanks to the compound interest of consistency, diligent SEO, and positioning in the market. Off the back of that traction, I launched my first business.
This was truly formative in developing foundational marketing skills like curation and distribution. More importantly, it forced me to clarify my thinking, sharpen my opinions, and build a network. Still today, I build on these foundations.
There’s no better way to accelerate your learning and kick-start your positioning than taking that first scary step and hitting publish.
